Intensive Style Online Balint Group: Lisa Buck & Mike Floyd
5/11/2026
5:30 PM - 7:00 PM EST

Event Description

Join a special online Balint group where the focus will be not only hearing cases, but a debrief "intensive style" where Mike Floyd and LIsa Buck will talk about leadership moves and help you solidify your skills. The group will meet four times for 90 minutes each session. We will work a case and then spend time discussing what happened and what the leaders considered during the case. As this group is geared towards enhancing leadership skills, prior attendance at a Leadership Intensive is required.

Leaders facilitating the group: Lisa Buck, MD, and Mike Floyd, EdD, LP-HSP

Lisa Buck, MD, has been involved with Balint work since her intern year of residency in Family Medicine, circa 1991. Balint training as a credentialed leader and supervisor soon followed. This work has been a passion for the entirety of her career. Lisa has led groups of residents, homeless shelter staff members, and groups of seasoned clinicians. Joining Ali to lead an intensive style online group with a debrief is new territory for the ABS and she is looking forward to sharing this experience with you.

Mike Floyd's introduction to Balint groups occurred early in his career as a psychology faculty member within the Family Medicine Department at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. It was at the 1991 Society of Teachers of Family Medicine conference that he first learned about the newly formed American Balint Society and recognized the importance of formal training in this area. Over more than thirty years, my involvement with Balint work has been both intellectually rewarding and professionally helpful.
